A dry, warm midsummer got ripening off to a good start, although a few late-season autumn showers put pressure on the harvest, which was saved by having a lower than normal crop that ripened earlier. This is an elegant, high energy red with floral violet, fresh herb and ripe berry flavours supported by powdery tannins and bright acidity. This promises to be a real long-distance runner. It demands cellaring. 2010 is a highly rated Hawke’s Bay vintage. Budburst was two weeks earlier than usual thanks to warm, dry weather in August and September. A wet, cold October drenched the vineyards but by mid-January they were dry enough to require irrigation. It's a very elegant wine with ripe blackberry, rose petal, tobacco, vanilla and spicy oak flavours. This is quite a tight, youthful and structured wine with obvious cellaring potential.
