2011 is the last vintage to be have been overseen from start to finish by the laste Serge Hochar.
The latest release from Ch. Musar has a youthfully deep garnet colour. Musar can sometimes lean more towards Bordeaux and other times be Rhone-like. The nose of the 2011 has something of both, with the spicy, gamey, orange peel character of a Cote Rotie, overlaid with lifted red cherry and rose petal aromas that are reminiscent of fine Pomerol. On the palate, it feels plush and ripe, with great concentration and vigour. Seven years old and it is only just starting to reveal itself. There’s plenty of grip from the polished tannins and a streak of vibrantly zesty acidity. The fruit is bright and fresh, with a succulent core, showing lots of red summer berries, which give way to fragrant blackcurrants and black cherries as the wine evolves in the glass. This is a complex and cerebral Musar that deserves patience both in the glass and the cellar.
To enjoy now, I’d recommend decanting at least a couple of hours in advance of pouring. On the other hand, it will reward prolonged cellar ageing; easily 10-30 years.

Fairly deep ruby. A denser, more concentrated, linear nose than the 2010 served alongside. A certain dustiness of aroma. This seems more obviously Cabernet than most Musar reds. Still quite youthful. Falls away a little on the end. Well judged but less distinctive and less obviously Lebanese than some vintages. Decent balance. Certainly not over the top. 14%
