Chateau de Beaucastel
Chateau de Beaucastel produces some of the most long-lived wines in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The regular cuvee is unusual in that it is a blend of all 13 permitted red and white grape varieties, though Mourvedre dominates. Beaucastel is also known for its practice of rapidly heating the grapes upon arrival at the winery, with the intention of killing off harmful bacteria and retaining freshness. The estate was an early adopter of Organic methods.
Hommage a Jacques Perrin is perhaps the region's first super cuvee and is only produced in the finest vintages. It is typically a blend of 60% Mourvedre, 20% old vine Grenache, 10% Counoise and 10% Syrah. There are often as little as 300 cases produced of this sought-after wine, which has the potential to age for decades.
