Olivier Bernstein is a leading light amongst the exciting, emerging micro-negociant scene in Burgundy.
A brief stage under the legendary Henri Jayer, has proven highly influential in his winemaking. He sources from plots of 60-80 year old, low yielding vines, in the very best sites. The wines undergo a high proportion of whole bunch fermentation, with around 50-60% of the stems included. They are aged in carefully selected 100% new oak.
The critics are united in their praise:
"Twelve years ago Olivier Bernstein owned a modest wine farm in Roussillon in the far south west of France. He moved north to Burgundy and started out in 2007 making wine in a dilapidated garage in a Gevrey-Chambertin backstreet buying the grandest fruit he could get his hands on. His has been the most meteoric rise I have witnessed in the region". Jancis Robinson MW
"this is definitely an address to watch carefully as the quality is most impressive". Allen Meadows, Burghound
"Olivier’s wines are well worth a look – the quality is definitely tangible in these svelte and charming wines". Neal Martin, Wine Advocate
