Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 by Don and Jennifer Hartford. Located in the Russian River Valley, Sonoma County near the town of Forestville, the winery is just 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast. The winery's mantra is 'Character through adversity', it focuses on small, low-yielding vineyards which produce as little as 93 cases; some of the vineyards are so close to the ocean that the grapes only ripen two out of three years. However, high risks bring high rewards and the 'Hartford Court 'Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs are as close as you will find to 'Grand Cru' Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in California. Under the seperate 'Hartford' label, the winery produces a range of high-class Zinfandels from some of the oldest Zinfandel vineyards in California, the average vine age is 80 years old - the winery affectionately refers to these as 'Zinot Noirs' due to their silky elegance. Hartford Family wines are regulary served at The White House.
