I appear to have under-rated this impressive effort and while the '01 LGR is still displaying ample wood spice influence, it no longer dominates the highly perfumed and elegant black fruit and earth aromas that lead to rich, full and racy medium plus weight flavors that are underpinned by dusty, refined and sophisticated tannins all wrapped in a sappy, pure, intense and beautifully long, indeed explosive finish. Purists may find a bit more wood than might be considered ideal but it doesn't compromise the balance and this should age beautifully. In a word, terrific.
